who knows where the time goes! well, at the end of may we will have completed 3 years of big lottery funding and what a difference it has made. we are locating more new service users than ever before usually by referral and have recruited more befrienders as a result. one of our more recent befrienders sends us lovely emails describing her adventures which say it all really, and with her permission i’ve included one below. hello again… a non urgent question for you josie if you could share your thoughts when there are some share. as you know b……. and i usually pencil in a tuesday and friday for our 2 1/2 hour get together twice a week. he told me on a couple of occasions that he gets bored on a sunday so when i found myself with a free sunday morning yesterday and as i had accumulated a few credits hours i thought i'd offer putting the two things together and suggest seeing him yesterday morning instead of tuesday this week, for a slightly longer than usual get together. he jumped at it and i agreed to take his favourite picnic food (never known anyone devour chicken legs with such enthusiasm...spent a bit of time explaining the anatomy of a chicken to him after he'd gobbled the two i had taken from our saturday night roast chicken meal, and he wondered if there were more!!!) and told him we would explore all barny had to offer together. it turned out to be one of those days that was so perfect in all respects it will probably never be bettered....like in the midst of the sleet and snow we caught the only hour of glorious sun sitting on a bench at bowes museum enjoying our picnic. we checked out the swimming baths ( he reckons he is going to try swimming again!!) the hub (he beat me at table footy!) before we ( well me!!) tidied his pile of clean washing that was creeping out of control and needed to find its way back into his wardrobe. he was sad we weren't going to be meeting up tomorrow as result but he said he'd never enjoyed a sunday as much and could we do it again? i will only ever have occasional sundays free but am certainly happy to suggest we meet up on these if he fancies it in lieu of one of the usual week day spots. when he asked if we could do both the week day slots as well as some sundays i told him i wasn't sure and would have to ask you....... is the etiquette that we have to wait to be asked to increase hours or are we able to put such conversations forward to whoever makes the decision....with it all depending on finance of course?
